Primary Function: Pipeline Repair
This is its standard and most critical application, widely used for both metallic and Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) pipelines.
Leak Sealing
GRP/FRP Pipes: Delamination, resin cracking, impact damage, or leakage at bell-and-spigot joints.
Applicability: Effective on pressurized pipelines transporting water, gas, oil, and industrial fluids.
Live Leak Repair
It can often be installed under pressure, allowing for repairs without interrupting service. This is crucial for minimizing downtime and avoiding the complex draining procedures often associated with large-diameter pipe transmission mains.
Mechanism
The clamp typically consists of a two-part metal housing (often stainless steel) and an integrated elastomeric sealing gasket.
Seal: This compresses the gasket against the glass fiber reinforced plastic pipe exterior, conforming to the surface to form a watertight or airtight seal, effectively bridging cracks or delaminated areas.
Secondary Application: Connection for FRP Pipes
Under specific and carefully evaluated conditions, it can serve as a special-purpose connector for plastic pipes.
Temporary or Emergency Connection
It can be used to join two GRP/FRP pipe ends temporarily to restore service during emergency repairs or to create a bypass. This application is highly situational and typically requires a permanent, bonded repair to follow.
Connecting Plain-End FRP Pipes
It connects two plastic pipes of the same specification (DN, PN, SN) that have been cut to create plain ends. Precise alignment and smooth, squared cut ends are absolutely critical.
Connection in Hazardous Areas
It provides a flameless, mechanical connection method in environments where hot work or the use of chemical adhesives (inherent to standard GRP jointing) is prohibited.
